The Colorado General Assembly meets annually starting in January (normally second week) and the session lasts for 120 days, including weekends and holidays, with the exception of special sessions.
Legislation introduced in the House is heard by the appropriate House Committee if the bill originates in the House or the appropriate Senate Committee when a bill originates in the Senate.
Upon approval in the House, a bill moves to the Senate and vice versa. Therefore there are 2 opportunities to provide information and any citizen is allowed to provide information during the hearings of each committee.
Most judicial and correctional legislation will be heard by the House and Senate judiciary Committees.

Membership in a House or Senate Committee normally expires at the end of each Legislative Session. For the most part, members of the committee will retain their position unless they are not re-elected/term-limited or there is a change in leadership of either House or Senate. Committee members can be contacted when the legislative session is over to help direct legislation for the following year.

Once legislation is enacted, it is added to the pertinent section of the Colorado Revised Statutes (C.R.S.)
